Hurricane Watch 10/28/12

Hurricane Sandy Alert.

GBT is suspending bus service at 8 PM tonight, Sunday October 28, and will remain closed throughout the storm.

Hurricane Sandy is on it's way. Depending on where landfall occurs, the Bridgeport Region expects to experience flooding and winds over a three day period beginning Sunday night. The most extreme weather is expected on Monday afternoon. Several key factors will contibute to flooding:

  • On Monday, October 27 at approximately 11:30 AM, the lunar high tide will be 7.6 feet above normal
  • Additional rain from the storm is expected to be 3-8" on Monday
  • The NOAA has predicted an additional water surge of 4-8 feet from the storm wind for Long Island Sound

Even if this storm hits land as a tropical storm, flooding in the Greater Bridgeport Region is anticipated. GBT will remain closed until the storm passes and it is safe to resume service. We will be posting updates to Facebook and Twitter during and after the storm.
