Help Plan and Prepare For the Future

GBT will be holding a public hearing on what could be a series of bus service changes (reductions, re-routings, schedule modifications and fare increases) in the Bridgeport Region this fall. These service changes are being considered to improve service and as part of a series of budget balancing measures GBT is undertaking.

We now have systems in place, which can provide us with extensive details regarding ridership and we have used that data to develop proposals which will improve efficiency and impact the fewest number of riders possible, while maintaining a balanced budget.

We know bus service is important to riders and businesses throughout the region. The plans to be presented focus on routes and sections of routes which serve a low number of riders. Service reductions will depend on future financial investment in public transit.

Proposed Service Reductions - Routes 14, 16, 10, 20 and ADA Access:

Route 14 – Suspension of service

(Service between Trumbull Mall and Monroe)

Route 16 – Suspension of service
(Local Stratford Service)

Route 20
 – Suspension of service
(Service from Trumbull Mall to the Clock Tower Shopping Center in Monroe)

Route 10
 – A change to a 60 minute frequency all day
(Service from Fairfield to Stratford via. Bridgeport)

GBT Access – A reduction in the ADA service area
(Paratransit service for seniors and persons with a disability)

Proposed Re-Routings - Routes 3, 7 and 23:

Route 7
 – Minor rerouting
(Service from downtown Bridgeport to Carolton Hospital in Fairfield)

Route 3 – Elimination of the Sacred Heart University deviation
(Service from Downtown Bridgeport to Westfield Trumbull Mall via Madison Ave)

Route 23 – Rerouting and minor scheduled adjustments
(Service from downtown Bridgeport to the Derby Train Station, via Stratford and Sikorsky)

Proposed Schedule Changes - CL and Route 5:

Route 5
 – Minor schedule adjustments
(Service from downtown Bridgeport to P.T. Barnum Apartments )

Coastal Link - A change to 30 minute frequency all day
(Service from Milford to Downtown Bridgeport to Norwalk and Return)

Possible Fare Increase

The last increase in GBT fares occurred in October 2010. At the upcoming hearing, GBT staff will also be sharing information about a possible fare increase:

  • Base Fare (90 minutes) increase from $1.75 to $2.00
  • All Day Pass increase from $4.00 to $5.00
  • GBT Access ADA Fare increase from $3.50 to $4.00/door-to-door trip
  • 7-Day and 31-Day pass costs would remain unchanged

What Next?

Any recommended changes will be considered by GBT’s Board of Commissioners later this summer and any that are selected would be implemented in October 2017 or later with robust public outreach in advance.

GBT held a series of five outreach sessions in the spring. After removing several proposals from consideration as a result of public comments, GBT will be holding a final hearing on the remaining proposals, on Tuesday August 22nd at 6:00 pm, at the Margaret E Morton Government Center.
