GBT Open Houses 2017

Looking Down the Road

There is not a single transportation service that GBT provides today that is not important to some part of the community. That is why making service changes is a difficult process. We are always looking for ways to improve service and must also ensure that we are doing the most with the funding we receive.

Today we are planning for an uncertain future. Over the past two years, there has been no increase in the funding available for bus service in the region and last year there was a two percent reduction in funding.

This month we will be holding a series of public outreach sessions to get community feedback on a wide range of ideas. Some are service reductions and some are route and schedule improvements. We will also be sharing ideas about a possible fare increase. All of these will help us ensure that we are prepared for the future.

Some of the ideas being considered include:

  • Improvements to the Coastal Link Schedule to provide a more reliable service
  • The suspension of service on Routes 14, 16 and 20
  • The discontinuation of service on the portion of Route 6 between Trumbull Avenue and the Trumbull Mall
  • The reduction of some Saturday services
  • A change in frequency on Routes 3, 4, 9 and 10
  • Expansion of Route 19x Schedule
  • Change in the routing of Routes 1, 3, 7, 9, 15, 17 and 23
  • Suspension of Route 17
  • Suspension of Route 3 deviations to Sacred Heart University on Saturdays
  • Increase in Routes 1 and 9 scheduled travel time

The proposed fare change would include a base fare increase from$1.75 to $2.00 and an increase in the all day pass from $4.00 to $5.00. This would also include an increase in the fare for GBT ADA service from $3.50 to $4.00 for a one way door-to-door trip. All other discounted fares would remain the same.

Your input is important in this process. Please take a look at the open houses listed below and set aside some time to hear the ideas and share your thoughts.

If you would like a GBT staff member to meet with your community group to discuss the proposals, please contact us at (203) 366-7070 Ext. 100 to arrange a presentation.
