Clean Technology Buses

“In addition to job creation, this project carries important environmental benefits. Everything the City can do to reduce its environmental footprint is a step in the right direction. If we provide healthy, environmentally friendly alternatives, people will choose them.” — Bill Finch, Bridgeport Mayor

GBT is in the process of retrofitting over 70% of it's bus fleet with EPA-approved clean technology filtration systems which:

  • reduce particulate matter by 90%
  • redue Carbon Monoxide by 85%
  • reduce Hydro Carbons by 85%

Retrofitted busses not only are cleaner but also are approximately 11% more efficient.

“The repowering of these engines will provide numerous benefits to the riders in Bridgeport and the taxpayers of Connecticut,” according to Ron Kilcoyne, General Manager and CEO of GBT. “We will be reducing our dependence on non-renewable resources by improving fuel efficiency by around eleven percent.”
