Bus Driver (Full Time)

If you hold a CT Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), have a high school diploma or a GED, are 22 years old or older, are a safe driver in good standing, and have great customer service skills, we’d like to hear from you!

Bus Driver Requirements

  • CT Commercial Driver License (CDL)
    • Endorsements: PF, PS, PA or PV
    • Classification: A or B
  • Current driver’s history with no more than two moving violations in two years
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Age 22+
  • Verifiable work references
  • Pass a background check
  • Pass a drug screening
  • Must be able to work eight consecutive weeks in paid training
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends
  • Must be on time every day with no exceptions

Bus Driver (Part Time)

Part-Time Perks

  • While part-timers are not eligible for full-time benefits, choosing to drive part-time with GBT can be a great source of extra income and also holds your place in line to become a full-time driver. Any full-time driving positions that come up at GBT are offered first to part-time drivers.

Foreperson

The Maintenance Foreman has bottom-line responsibility for safely ensuring the proper maintenance and repair of all vehicles operated by GBT personnel, whether in fixed-route or paratransit service or in non-revenue support service. The Maintenance Foreman supervises all non-managerial and non-supervisory maintenance personnel working at or in communication with GBT’s maintenance department during his/her shift. Maintenance Foremen are responsible for ensuring an adequate supply of buses ready for pullouts as well as for providing ready replacements for buses that break down while in service. Besides routine coordination of shop activities, provision of technical assistance to and mentoring of mechanics, oversight of employee safety and productivity, and assignment of maintenance and repair work to mechanics and related support staff, the Maintenance Foreman assists in managing the ongoing vehicle maintenance program. The Maintenance Foreman further assists management with non-routine tasks by participating in the ongoing review of maintenance procedures; specification of new vehicles and other related equipment; and development and implementation of new procedures and of new-hire and refresher training of maintenance staff. The Maintenance Foreman is a highly responsible supervisory position.

Yardperson

Responsible for daily maintenance and upkeep of GBT vehicles as it relates to fueling and cleanliness.

This position reports to the Operations Officer and Foreperson and does not exercise supervision of other staff.

Position Description:

1.  Performs fueling, cleaning, washing, fluid level, greasing, oil changing, routine inspection and “odd jobs.” Performs all assigned duties with safety in mind.

2.  Drives bus slowly through wash rack.

3.  Daily services buses, which includes, but is not limited to checking, draining and replenishing fluids, i.e., oil, transmission, power steering, coolant and takes samples as required.

4.  Looks for and reports defects on equipment.

5.  Insures that interiors are free of dust, dirt, stains and grease by thoroughly cleaning dashboards, drivers’ areas, ceiling vents, windows, doors, damp mops floors, step wells and all hard surfaces.

6.  Insures all areas are clean and clear of any obstruction before bus is backed in.  Also insures that the ears on the front lift are completely in to not damage tires when backing over them.

7.  Operates controls that lift and lower the bus and safety locks.

8.  Inspects and completes shop zone, pre-trip and pm cards.

9.  Other duties as assigned by the Operations Officer and Foreperson

Position Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent a must
  • CDL license required
  • To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty safely and satisfactorily.
  • Have the ability to understand and follow safety guidelines
  • Must have the ability to handle detail, to stay organized and be accurate.
  • Must be able to work with a minimum amount of supervision under stressful conditions.
