Full-Time Bus Driver

If you hold a CT Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), have a high school diploma or a GED, are 22 years old or older, are a safe driver in good standing, and have great customer service skills, we’d like to hear from you!

Bus Driver Requirements

  • CT Commercial Driver License (CDL)
    • Endorsements: PF, PS, PA or PV
    • Classification: A or B
  • Current driver’s history with no more than two moving violations in two years
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Age 22+
  • Verifiable work references
  • Pass a background check
  • Pass a drug screening
  • Must be able to work eight consecutive weeks in paid training
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends
  • Must be on time every day with no exceptions

  • While part-timers are not eligible for full-time benefits, choosing to drive part-time with GBT can be a great source of extra income and also holds your place in line to become a full-time driver. Any full-time driving positions that come up at GBT are offered first to part-time drivers.

Accounts Payable Specialist

Description:

Provides support to GBT Finance in the capacity of Accounts Payable.  Performs regularly recurring data recording and data entry tasks as necessary to complete the payable function in accordance with GBT Policies and Procedures.  Perform all duties necessary in maintaining accurate books and records pertaining to Accounts Payable.

Position Requirements:

  • Prepares for payment all external invoices, including data entry and supporting documentation to support the entire A/P process.
  • Prepares weekly payments for garnishments, credit union, AFLAC and other entities.
  • Maintains Petty Cash disbursements and reconciles balances on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintains a working relationship with vendors to ensure an ongoing partnership.
  • Prepares the State Grant Matching Program invoices for reconciliation and payment.
  • Responsible for yearly 1099 to AP vendors
  • Other dues as assigned by the Director of Finance.

Bus Cleaner

Description:

Perform supplementary cleaning on GBTA vehicles.

  1. Performs thorough cleanings of GBTA buses, mini-vans, and/or support vehicles that is secondary and supplementary to the service lane attendant cleaning function.
  2. A cleaning consists of a comprehensive scrub of all interior surfaces of a vehicle including floors, seats, dashboards, windows and window ledges, walls, roof, and all other areas not normally cleaned in a routine servicing by the service lane attendant.
  3. A cleaning of exterior surfaces such as windows, wheels, mirrors residue from bus wash. Any graffiti, stickers or oily or sticky residue such as tar.
  4. Assist the Maintenance Department in the improvement of the existing Bus Cleanliness Program by advising or suggesting alternate methods, chemicals, tools, etc. to perform deep cleaning functions.
  5. Advise the Maintenance Department of any repairs needed to correct damage caused by vandalism or wear-out, such as body damage, graffiti, seat cushion damage, advertisement etc.
  6. Generate and/or complete records of deep cleaning activities.

Diesel Mechanic

General Function:

Performs skilled automotive mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of Greater Bridgeport Transit’s buses, trucks, automobiles, heavy and light equipment, both diesel and gasoline powered, and other mechanical equipment.

Position Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • CT Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Five-years experience in a related automotive field.
  • Knowledge of standard practices, usual to automotive and heavy equipment repairs.
  • Basic theory and operation of engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, electricity, pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Ability to give and receive written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to make decisions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Possess oral and written communication skills that can be clearly articulated and understood are essential

Parts Coordinator

Description:

This position reports to the Superintendent of Inventory, Manager of Maintenance Operations and Chief Operations Officer and does not exercise supervision of other staff.

Responsibilities include the complete oversight of the operation of GBT’s Parts Department and its associated inventory and consumables.

Other Position Requirements:

  • Maintain a complete inventory of all parts, consumables and tools required for the operation of the GBT Maintenance Facility.
  • Develops suppliers from which to obtain items.  Build and maintain professional relationships with suppliers and their representatives and neighboring transit properties.
  • Works together with Maintenance Department Foremen and Mechanics to address Department needs, determine proper stocking items, quantities and reorder levels.
  • Controls and oversees Transit owned parts, materials and supplies, tools and equipment to prevent unauthorized use or consumption.
  • Obtains price quotes and develops appropriate sources.
  • Reviews weekly MRP reports to determine items to be purchased, acceptable minimum/maximum levels and inventory type.
  • Prepares requisitions for the procurement of needed items.
  • Issues parts to mechanics.
  • Picks up parts from local vendors as necessary.
  • Conducts daily inventory of all tank farm consumables and reconciles to daily usage reports.
  • Tracks and controls all return parts, cores, defective parts and warranty items.
  • Routinely conducts cycle counts of all inventory items.
  • Answers questions concerning location and use of parts from Maintenance Department personnel.
  • Keeps records of inventory stock, parts, and supplies consumed and order merchandise.
  • Performs all shipping and receiving functions and maintains associated records.
  • Performs various clerical duties in support of GBT’s parts and maintenance departments.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Operations Officer.

Superintendent/Assistant Manager of Facilities and Grounds

Description:

GBT’s Superintendent/Assistant Manager of Facilities and Grounds helps to ensure that all GBT facilities, grounds and equipment are maintained in a state of good repair and in compliance with GBT policies and procedures as well as all local, state and federal regulations.  This position plays an important role in the facility preventative and corrective maintenance program for all GBT properties and helps ensure that all work is scheduled and completed in accordance with GBT’s Facility Maintenance Plan (FMP) and that the entirety of GBT facilities and grounds are kept safe and in a state of good repair.

Utility Person

Description:

Performs skilled automotive mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority automobiles, trucks, buses, heavy and light equipment, both diesel and gasoline powered; and other mechanical equipment.

CDL Required

Position Requirements:

  • Performs simple tasks of repair and replacement without supervision and learns to perform more complex tasks under supervision of management and/or higher classified employees.
  • Must have the capacity and ambition to learn and progress to higher classifications.
  • Maintains all Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority owned mechanical equipment, conducts any necessary preventive maintenance activity.
  • Demonstrates the ability to read and understand work procedures using repair manuals, charts and basic electrical schematics.
  • Operates vehicles and equqipment, uses lift of jack to analyze, test, inspect and determine cause of malfunction.  Uses mechanics hand tools and power equipment to remove, disassemble and repair, rebuild, or replace defective parts or units and various other shop equipment, including but not limited to bus lifts, floor jacks, power and hand tools, steam cleaner, sand blaster and parts washer.
  • Maintains records of all vehicle activity performed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Foremen.

Yardperson

Description:

Responsible for daily maintenance & upkeep of GBT vehicles as it relates to fueling & cleanliness.

Performs fueling, cleaning, washing, fluid level, greasing, oil changing, routine inspection and “odd jobs.”  Performs all assigned duties with safety in mind.
