Full-Time Bus Driver

If you hold a CT Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), have a high school diploma or a GED, are 22 years old or older, are a safe driver in good standing, and have great customer service skills, we’d like to hear from you!

Bus Driver Requirements

  • CT Commercial Driver License (CDL)
    • Endorsements: PF, PS, PA or PV
    • Classification: A or B
  • Current driver’s history with no more than two moving violations in two years
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Age 22+
  • Verifiable work references
  • Pass a background check
  • Pass a drug screening
  • Must be able to work eight consecutive weeks in paid training
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends
  • Must be on time every day with no exceptions

Part-Time Bus Driver

Part-Time Perks

  • While part-timers are not eligible for full-time benefits, choosing to drive part-time with GBT can be a great source of extra income and also holds your place in line to become a full-time driver. Any full-time driving positions that come up at GBT are offered first to part-time drivers.

Manager of Grants and Procurement

Description:

GBT’s Manager of Grants and Procurements ensures agency-wide compliance with federal and state grant agreements and applicable regulations and codes ensuring fare and open competition, good stewardship of public funding and timely close-out of GBT grants.  Provides information to the Chief financial Officer, Chief Operations Officer and CEO concerning the status of all grant projects. Functions as the GBT grant liaison to the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Connecticut Department of Transportation (CDOT). Analyzes the funding needs of GBT and monitors the spending and contract management of capital projects undertaken by GBT. Monitors grants to ensure proper utilization of available funds. The Manager of Grants and Procurement is responsible for all phases of the procurement process including solicitation, award and contract administration as well as fixed asset management.  Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required. Responsible for ensuring that all procurements are conducted in accordance with FTA Circular 4220.1F as amended from time to time and master agreements between GBT and CDOT and FTA.

Accountability:

This position reports to the Director of Finance and does not supervise any other staff.

Demand Response Services Associate

Description:

Performs comprehensive and critical support services to GBT’s demand response division related to ADA Paratransit Services (ADA), Municipal Grant Program (MGP) Services, Micro-Transit Services, and other mobility service models deployed by GBT.

Accountability:

This position reports to the Director of Mobility on Demand and assists in the day-to-day oversight of GBT demand response services and contractors.

Diesel Mechanic

General Function:

Performs skilled automotive mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of Greater Bridgeport Transit’s buses, trucks, automobiles, heavy and light equipment, both diesel and gasoline powered, and other mechanical equipment.

Position Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • CT Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Five-years experience in a related automotive field.
  • Knowledge of standard practices, usual to automotive and heavy equipment repairs.
  • Basic theory and operation of engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, electricity, pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Ability to give and receive written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to make decisions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Possess oral and written communication skills that can be clearly articulated and understood are essential

Foreperson

General Function:

GBT’s Maintenance Foreperson has bottom-line responsibility for safely ensuring the proper maintenance and repair of all vehicles operated by GBT personnel, whether in fixed-route or paratransit service or in non-revenue support service. The Maintenance Foreman supervises all non-managerial and non-supervisory maintenance personnel working at or in communication with GBT’s maintenance department during his/her shift. Maintenance Foremen are responsible for ensuring an adequate supply of buses ready for pullouts as well as for providing ready replacements for buses that break down while in service. Besides routine coordination of shop activities, provision of technical assistance to and mentoring of mechanics, oversight of employee safety and productivity, and assignment of maintenance and repair work to mechanics and related support staff, the Maintenance Foreman assists in managing the ongoing vehicle maintenance program. The Maintenance Foreman further assists management with non-routine tasks by participating in the ongoing review of maintenance procedures; specification of new vehicles and other related equipment; and development and implementation of new procedures and of new-hire and refresher training of maintenance staff. The Maintenance Foreman is a highly responsible supervisory position.

Utility Person

Description:

Performs skilled automotive mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority automobiles, trucks, buses, heavy and light equipment, both diesel and gasoline powered; and other mechanical equipment.

CDL Required

Position Requirements:

  • Performs simple tasks of repair and replacement without supervision and learns to perform more complex tasks under supervision of management and/or higher classified employees.
  • Must have the capacity and ambition to learn and progress to higher classifications.
  • Maintains all Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority owned mechanical equipment, conducts any necessary preventive maintenance activity.
  • Demonstrates the ability to read and understand work procedures using repair manuals, charts and basic electrical schematics.
  • Operates vehicles and equipment, uses lift of jack to analyze, test, inspect and determine cause of malfunction.  Uses mechanics hand tools and power equipment to remove, disassemble and repair, rebuild, or replace defective parts or units and various other shop equipment, including but not limited to bus lifts, floor jacks, power and hand tools, steam cleaner, sand blaster and parts washer.
  • Maintains records of all vehicle activity performed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Foremen.
