at the GBT Bus Station on 10/21/21
Greater Bridgeport Transit is partnering with The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) and Griffin Health to provide an opportunity for people to get the Covid-19 vaccination.
On Thursday October 21, 2021, there will be a free vaccination clinic at the GBT bus station located at 710 Water Street, Bridgeport, CT from 11:30 am – 4:30 pm.
People who received their first vaccine at our last clinic are welcome to this clinic to get their second COVID-19 dose. People who have not yet had a vaccine are also welcome!
No-Cost, Walk-Up Vaccinations Available
Just look for the yellow SUV in front of the bus station
Administered by Griffin Health, your choice of an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) and J&J will be available at this clinic. No appointment is needed. It is not necessary to have health insurance or a state-issued ID. All residents are welcome and no one will be turned away.

Tropical Storm Henri Expected to Arrive on Sunday, August 22.
GBT is monitoring the approaching storm which is expected to land in Bridgeport around 2PM on Sunday, August 22, 2021. Expect major disruptions and possible service suspensions due to extreme weather.
We are asking all our riders to consider completing your essential trips today and sheltering at home tomorrow. Please stay alert and check back regularly for service updates. We have provided information, below, about the storm and how to find out the most current information about bus service in the Greater Bridgeport region.
A Storm Surge Warning and Tropical Storm Warning are in effect as of 8/21/21.
According to the National Weather Service, “Tropical Storm Henri… will likely track north northeast across Long Island as a category 1 hurricane Sunday. The main threats from Henri are potentially life-threatening storm surge, heavy rain capable of producing flash flooding, tropical storm or hurricane force winds along the south shore and Long Island and across southern Connecticut.”

One More Ride Free Weekend
Along with transit agencies across the State, GBT has been providing bus service for free on the weekends since Memorial Day. During this period, we provided more than 150,000 free rides!
We hope you had the opportunity to try the bus service and reach some of the great destinations in our region.
The free weekend program will be coming to an end. The last day of the program will be Monday, September 6, 2021. You still have time to take advantage of the free service to get out and about on September 4th, 5th, and 6th.

Mask Up!
Masks are Still Required on Public Transportation
To help stop the spread of the COVID-19 in public transit systems across the country, President Biden issued an Executive Order requiring that masks be worn by all users and employees of public transportation, at that same time, the Transportation Security Administration (TSD) issued a safety directive, implementing the Executive Order.
“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Surgeon General, and the National Institutes of Health have concluded that mask-wearing, physical distancing, appropriate ventilation, and timely testing can mitigate the risk of travelers spreading COVID-19. Accordingly, to save lives and allow all Americans, including the millions of people employed in the transportation industry, to travel and work safely, it is the policy of my Administration to implement these public health measures consistent with CDC guidelines on public modes of transportation and at ports of entry to the United States.”
Masks will continue to be required on all GBT services and in all GBT facilities until at least January 18, 2022.
On August 20, 2021, the TSA extended the requirement for mask use on public transportation to at least until January 18, 2022.
Thank you for your continued compliance with this Executive Order, as a result, we are all working to stop the spread of the virus. If you are in need of a few masks, please visit the information booth at the Water Street Station.

Beginning on August 16th, most buses will be arriving and departing at various locations on Water Street. There will be staff on site to help you find your bus. See the map, below, to find your bus. You can also download and print out a PDF of the map.
This is the time of year when we review our emergency procedures and plans to be sure we are able to keep our services running during severe weather and, if there is an interruption, to resume service as soon as possible following a storm. Part of our preparations include letting our riders and communities know where to go for information about service changes or cancellations during storms of any kind.
Tropical Storm Elsa will continue approaching from the south through this evening. The storm will then pass near or over the Mid Atlantic coast late tonight, and near or over Long Island and southeast New England on Friday morning.
The main threats from Elsa are heavy rain capable of producing flash flooding, tropical storm force winds especially along the south shore of Long Island and across southeast Connecticut.
According to the National Weather Service, “Heavy rainfall ahead of tropical system Elsa will move into portions of the Tri-State area late tonight, with periods of heavy rainfall possible through Friday morning.”

Encouraging DBE and Small Business Participation in GBT’s Contracting Opportunities
At GBT we are continuously working to provide the best possible bus service to the people in our region. An important part of that work includes keeping our facilities in a state of good repair and modernizing our services, equipment, and transit amenities. To do this, we rely on contractors of all types and are regularly soliciting bids for our projects.
As part of our contracting program, GBT encourages the participation of Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs). Every three years, we look out at all of our projects and associated contracting opportunities, assess the extent to which DBEs are available for the anticipated work, and establish a goal for DBE participation.
Goals and DBE Participation Rates
Between 2016 and 2018, GBT established a DBE participation goal of 3.02% and attained 6.46% participation. Between 2019 and 2021, our goal was 5.86% and our attainment was 17.21% ― a total of $832,232 in contracts for DBEs.
During the period between 2022 and 2025, we have set a new goal of 6.2% DBE participation worth approximately $697,670.

During the next three years, GBT will continue working to keep its facilities and amenities in a state of good repair and expects to expand its administration and maintenance facility. Work on these projects will include:

GBT and the Minority Construction Council will be hosting a virtual DBE outreach session to share the upcoming DBE goal, upcoming contracting opportunities, and how to do business with GBT.
