New Bus Service Expansion Coming this Winter

Expanding Transit in Greater Bridgeport
Good news! The State’s Budget includes bus service enhancement across the state and in the Greater Bridgeport Region. The budget contains three GBT service enhancements that fill mobility gaps identified in a recent “gap analysis” including:
GBT Route 19 Express
Expansion to all day service on Route 19 Express – Downtown Bridgeport to Trumbull and Monroe, via Trumbull Center and State Routes 111 / 25
GBT Route 22 Express
Expansion to all day service on Route 22 Express – Downtown Bridgeport to Shelton, via Trumbull Corporate Park, Bridgeport Avenue and the Shelton Corporate Park.
GBT Route 23
Expansion to all day service on Route 23 – Downtown Bridgeport to Shelton / Derby Train Station, via Main St. / Stratford and State Route 110.
These enhancements are the first in many years and will provide greater service span and reliability to GBT’s services to important employment locations in the Greater Bridgeport Region.

Bus Service Expansion Around the State
Employment • Economic Development • Education
The service modifications offered in this expansion option are prioritizing improved access to employment, training, and education. By improving the span of service of the transit system, people will be able to rely on bus service for employment seven days a week and can get home from a second shift job or get to a third shift job.
Expansion to all day service on routes 19x and 22x and 23. These routes serve employment locations and the Derby Rail Station, allowing for connections to New York, New Haven, and Waterbury. These routes serve the communities of Stratford, Trumbull, Derby, Shelton, Bridgeport, Monroe.
Provide public dial-a-ride service on Saturday and Sunday. This service is provided to the communities of Derby, Shelton, Seymour, Ansonia.
New employment shuttle to Electric Boat, restoration of Sunday service, expanded hours of service on routes 3, 11, 4, 5, 6, 12, 13, 14, 982. These routes will serve the communities of Waterford, East Lyme, Norwich, Groton, New London.
Evening and weekend service on a route to serve the developing area of western Danbury.
Expand service hours to 11PM on Middletown routes Monday through Saturday and provide Sunday service. Will improve employment opportunities and access to Middlesex Community College.
Expand from 3 trips a day to provide hourly service between Waterbury and Naugatuck. Improve access to employment from Naugatuck and to a new Amazon warehouse on the Naugatuck/Waterbury border.
Add bus service to Wallingford Amazon facility, Honeywell Life Safety in Northford, and create a new express route between New Haven and the Orange Business District.
Combine routes to replace single direction bus loop with bi-directional service in Willimantic.
Increase connectivity, improve frequency and span of service for the central Connecticut bus system. Improves service to Tunxis Community College and the Berlin Railroad Station. Target new employment, education and training opportunities in Bristol and industrial parks along the Berlin Turnpike and in the north end of Meriden. Introduces bus service to the northern part of Southington.
Expand service to provide evening service Monday through Saturday and begin providing Sunday service.
Initiate a new crosstown route between the Springdale and Cove areas of Stamford. This will improve level of service and travel time by eliminating the need for a transfer at the congested Stamford Transportation Center.
Replace single directional bus routes with bi-directional loops on certain shuttles in order to expand service on weekday evenings and weekends.
