Public Transit Powers Public Education

Transit Keeps Students on Track

170,000 Annual Rides

Greater Bridgeport Transit plays a vital role in the daily lives of local students, providing approximately 170,000 rides to Bridgeport public school students every year. For many of these young riders, GBT isn’t just a convenience — it’s their only reliable connection to the classroom and extracurricular activities.

Without this service, countless students would face serious barriers getting to and from school each day. Any reduction in transit service wouldn’t just be an inconvenience; it could mean students missing out on their education entirely.

Funding decision-makers should consider what’s really at stake. For tens of thousands of students the bus isn’t just a ride, it’s the road to the future.

Avoid Drastic Service Cuts

30% Service Cuts

As GBT exhausts the federal pandemic relief funding that currently supports its operations, a substantial budget shortfall is projected in FY 2027 (beginning July 1, 2026). This budget gap will result in devastating service cuts to the community, if new funding is not available to fill GBT’s budget gap.

The state Appropriations Committee has recommended funding for GBT. This budget is being finalized now. Act today — contact your legislators and the Governor’s Office and urge them to support including this funding in the final budget.

Contact your legislator today to support the recommended funding appropriation for GBT.

Let your legislator know how important GBT bus service is to you. If you are a bus rider, a local business, or a resident, please take a minute to fill out this short form. We’ll deliver your submission to your legislator for you.
