National Transit Employee Appreciation Day - March 18, 2026 - Thank You to all GBT Employees!

Thank You to All GBT Employees!

National Transit Employee Appreciation Day

GBT joins transit agencies across the country in celebrating National Transit Employee Appreciation Day. Today we recognize the hardworking men and women who make public transportation possible every single day β€” from the drivers who navigate our streets to the mechanics who keep every bus road-ready, from our dispatchers and customer service staff to the safety and maintenance crews working behind the scenes, our employees are the backbone of GBT.

β€œEvery day, our team shows up with professionalism, dedication, and genuine care for the riders they serve.”

―Steven DeMichele, GBT CEO

“Every day, our team shows up with professionalism, dedication, and genuine care for the riders they serve,” said Steven DeMichele, GBT CEO. “We are incredibly proud of the people who make this system run, and we want them to know how much their work means β€” not just to this agency, but to the thousands of riders who depend on them.”

To our transit family: thank you. Your service matters, and it shows.

The public is encouraged to take a moment today to thank a bus operator or transit worker. A simple wave, a kind word, or a smile goes a long way in showing appreciation for the people who keep GBT moving.

Service Reductions Public Hearing

Two public events are being held this week on Thursday to help you understand the scope of upcoming service cuts and how you can help GBT advocate for new funding to continue current transit services.

Rider Spotlight

Getting to Know Our Riders: Garth T.

Garth is exactly the kind of rider that makes Greater Bridgeport Transit proud. A lifelong Bridgeport resident and graduate of Bassick High School, Garth was a volunteer firefighter, and now in retirement he continues to give back by volunteering at his local church. These days, you’ll find him riding Routes 3, 5, 6, and 15 almost every day.

Rider Garth T with GBT Bus Driver

GBT CEO Steven DeMichele recently had the chance to sit down with Garth, after connecting with us through GBT’s Facebook page, where Garth is a regular presence β€” posting updates and sharing information about bus service with the community.

When asked about his experience riding GBT, Garth didn’t hesitate. “The drivers are on-time, friendly, and do all their safety checks. They’re on the money!” he said.

We’re grateful for riders like Garth who champion public transit in our community.
